Along with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul was noticeably absent from India’s ODI lineup for the trip to Zimbabwe. The BCCI did not choose the batsman to be one of the 15 players who would go to Zimbabwe for three ODIs commencing on August 18. The batter hasn’t played in an Indian match since February. There are several explanations for why Rahul chose not to visit Zimbabwe. Others have speculated that the 30-year-old cricketer may still be rehabilitating from his groyne condition. Some have said that this is because he and his rumoured girlfriend Athiya Shetty are getting married.

After the T20Is versus West Indies, Rahul clarified his decision to skip India’s next white-ball assignment in a letter posted on Twitter, putting an end to the rumours. “Welcome, guys. I wanted to be clear about a few things about my health and fitness “Rahul started off by speaking.

“I began training in June after a successful surgery with the hopes of returning to duty for my nation during the trip to the West Indies. Unfortunately, just as I was regaining my physical condition, I tested positive for Covid-19. Things were naturally delayed by a few weeks as a result, but my objective is to recover quickly and be available for selection as soon as possible.”

The day before Rahul was supposed to lead India against South Africa at home in the T20I series in June, he had a groyne injury. After that, Rahul made a surgical trip to Germany. Rahul was chosen for India’s T20I selection for the West Indies tour after returning to NCA training after his rehabilitation. But the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly dropped a bomb when he told the media that Rahul had signed a contract with Covid. As he was subsequently disqualified from the T20Is, Sanju Samson took his position on the team.
