Rishabh Pant, a wicketkeeper-batter, may take over as captain soon, according to former Indian batter Arun Lal. In the home T20I series against South Africa, Pant led India in place of vice-captain KL Rahul and regular captain Rohit. Pant has now joined the executive committee. These qualities, according to Lal, would help the team improve if Pant were to be selected as India’s captain in the future since he can handle pressure and isn’t afraid to play his natural game.

Definitely, yeah (On being asked if Rishabh Pant is the future captain after Rohit Sharma). Lal gave a speech to Jagran TV. “The team captain ought to rank among the top three players, in my opinion. He (Pant) is a confident player who knows how to handle pressure, can lead the team through challenging situations, and is not afraid to play his game. An aggressive player like Pant would be beneficial for the Indian cricket team as the captain “He said.

Pant has had experience as a captain early in his career. He was selected to lead Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team even before he made his India debut. He is now the captain of the IPL’s Delhi Capitals.

Lal believes it’s just a matter of time until Pant begins to consistently win limited-overs matches for India despite the criticism he receives for failing to translate his Test form into the white-ball forms. In the series-deciding game against England on Sunday in Manchester, Pant blasted his maiden ODI hundred.
