On Sunday night, India and Pakistan engaged in an action-packed match in the Asia Cup Super 4 stage, with Pakistan ultimately winning by five wickets. Pakistan, who needed to score 182 runs to win, relied on the efforts of Mohammad Rizwan (71) and Mohammad Nawaz (42), with Asif Ali (16 off 8 balls) providing the late flourish and helping the men in green cross the finish line. Pakistan made a successful start to the Super 4 stage of the tournament by winning with one ball remaining.

While many cricket fans and ex-players expressed their satisfaction at the exciting match between the two teams, England’s “Barmy Army,” who have a love-hate relationship with Indian supporters, infuriated supporters on both sides by equating the India-Pakistan rivalry with the Ashes. After the game, the Barmy Army posted, “Ashes > India versus Pakistan nonetheless,” which angered supporters of both nations.

Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer for India, couldn’t help but brutally attack Barmy Army for the similarity. Jaffer added, “If I were an England fan, given the Ashes record Eng has, I’d minimize the Ashes if anything #INDvPAK,” about his country’s previous Ashes performance (where they lost 0-5 Down Under).

India defeated Pakistan in the Group A match on August 28 by a margin of five wickets after both contests were tightly contested. India was allowed to bat first in the match Wednesday, and Virat Kohli gave hints of his return to form by scoring a magnificent 60 off only 43 deliveries. Even though India scored a high total in the match, Pakistan ultimately prevailed in the Super 4 game because of Nawaz’s outstanding hitting in the last few overs and Arshdeep Singh’s missed catch of Asif Ali.

In its second Super 4 game against Sri Lanka, India will now return to play on Tuesday.
