Bad news has struck the Indian cricket team as one of its key players, Washington Sundar has tested positive for COVID-19 and he has been ruled out of the ODI squad against South Africa series that starts on January 19th. A BCCI source has provided important updates regarding this case. “Sundar tested positive for the virus and has been separated from the rest of the team. All of the other players’ reports were negative, and they will depart Mumbai early Wednesday morning. In India, they are subjected to a three-day quarantine. If these players received three negative reports in South Africa, they would be placed in the Indian squad bubble.”

Sundar contributes to the team in many ways with his great skills and potential. His absence will affect the team’s performance, and even Kohli has acknowledged this fact. “We’ve had a lot of success with Washington, so you can’t have two players of the same discipline on the same team. Unless Washi has a really bad season and things go terribly wrong for him, the question must be asked with some sense. When someone like Washington already fulfills that role for the team, you recommend adding Ash and playing him on the team”, Kohli stated.

Because the original captain, Rohit Sharma, is still recovering from a hamstring injury, KL Rahul will lead the Indian ODI team. Despite Omicron’s fears, the Indian team resumed their visit to South Africa. After the series was postponed for a week, the BCCI and Cricket South Africa decided to reschedule the T20I series.
