On Thursday, all-rounder Washington Sundar was ruled out of the Test series against England, which begins on August 4. After Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan, Washington is the third player to be ruled out of the tour.

Sundar is currently playing for the County Select XI in a warm-up match against an Indian team headed by Rohit Sharma.

Washington has fractured a finger after getting struck by a Mohammed Siraj’s delivery on the second day of India’s first-class warm-up match against County XI. His fingers were apparently hit harder than expected by Siraj’s short ball, and he was in agonising pain when he returned to the pavilion.

The replacements will be announced soon, and it will be intriguing to see if Navdeep Saini or Bhuvneshwar Kumar replace Avesh and join after the Sri Lanka series. Krishnappa Gowtham is the like-for-like substitute in Washington.

India has been in the UK since early June, when they competed in the ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton, which they lost. They had taken a break since then and had lately rejoined to begin their Test series preparations.
