The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the team for India’s three-match away ODI series against Zimbabwe, which is scheduled to take place from August 18–22. Rohit Sharma is having a sabbatical, thus Shikhar Dhawan is still leading the squad as captain, while KL Rahul and Virat Kohli are still absent. Rahul had stated on his official Twitter account that the reason for his recovery being postponed was a Covid-19 infection, but Kohli’s absence remained a mystery.

Since the top batter is still struggling with his form, Kohli may make a comeback for the ODI series against Zimbabwe, according to many publications. Kohli returned to international competition after the 2022 Indian Premier League, and in six innings across all formats, his highest score was 20. The former India captain is anticipated to return to play in the Asia Cup the following month after taking a break for the tour to the West Indies, according to news agency PTI.

“The selectors were advised by Virat that he will be available starting with the Asia Cup. There won’t be much downtime for the first team players between the Asia Cup and the World T20. Consequently, they have a two-week window to unwind after their vacation to the Windies “a source told PTI.

A few well-known players have returned to the national team after lengthy absences due to injury, and we’re talking comebacks. Washington Sundar, an off-spinner who has excelled in his English county career with Lancashire, has completed his recovery from hamstring and back injuries. Seaman Deepak Chahar has also rejoined the gang.

Five months have passed since Chahar last took part in a match. The 2022 IPL season was also lost to him.

The Harare Sports Club will serve as the venue for all three One-Day Internationals between India and Zimbabwe. Four days after the Zimbabwe trip is over, the Asia Cup starts (August 27).
