A massive reorganisation is on the cusp for the Indian team as Pujara and Rahane will be chucked out of the Test squad and Shubhman Gill will look forward to cementing his place in the middle order. This move will happen due to the unexpected and surprising defeat of the experienced Indian team against South Africa in the test series.

India’s test schedule includes a two-match series against Sri Lanka on February 25 and there will be two middle-order spots that will need to be filled by selectors and team management. Gill is still recovering from his shin injury and it is more likely that he will be chosen as the middle-order hitter. It is certain that Pujara and Rahane will see themselves dismissed from the squad, and they will only get a chance if head coach Rahul Dravid vouches for them.

Sunil Gavaskar has commented on the defeat of India in the South African test series. “Both Pujara and Rahane, I believe, will be benched for the Sri Lanka series. Both Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari will play, and we’ll have to see who plays third. We’ll have to wait and watch whether Hanuma Vihari replaces Pujara and Shreyas Iyer replaces Rahane at number five. Nonetheless, I believe that two slots will be up for grabs against Sri Lanka. ”
