Vettori, Andre Borovec join Australia men’s team as assistant coaches

The Australian men’s squad has chosen former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori and Victorian Andre Borovec as assistant coaches. Borovec will also coach the ‘A’ squad on their shadow tour to Sri Lanka. Borovec and Vettori replace Jeff Vaughan, who has returned to Tasmania as the Tigers’ Head Coach, and McDonald, who served as a deputy to previous head coach Justin Langer.

Vettori, who recently worked as a spin bowling consultant for Bangladesh on the international stage, also coached for IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore under McDonald. They had previously played for the franchise. Earlier this year, during the white-ball phase of the Pakistan tour, the experienced New Zealander worked with the Australian setup. Borovec, a renowned high performance coach who has worked with McDonald in the Victoria and Melbourne Renegades setups, has no international playing experience.

“When Andre was engaged as a highly talented and experienced high-performance coach, he was excellent for the group. He is culturally a good match and has the abilities to complement our high-performing experts “McDonald said.

“I’ve previously worked with Daniel and cannot speak highly enough of his attitude, work ethic, and rapport. His background and balanced approach have been widely documented. He’ll be a terrific addition to the team and will offer a wealth of experience.”
