The best pacer for Team India, Umran Malik, enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2022. For Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, the fast bowler regularly delivered, finishing the season with 22 wickets in 14 games. His maiden call-up to the Indian cricket squad in June for the T20I series against South Africa was also a result of his outstanding IPL performance. Since then, Umran has participated in five of the longer formats as well as three of the shorter ones.

The squads for the T20I and ODI games against Sri Lanka, which begin on January 3, include Umran as well. Due to his remarkable speeds, Umran sometimes draws compared to one of Pakistan’s fastest bowlers, former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar. The greatest cricketer from Pakistan possesses the fastest delivery in the sport’s history (161kph vs New Zealand, 2002).

Umran is often asked if he plans to beat Akhtar’s famous record, but the pacer said in an interview with News24 that his main priority is to perform well for India.

“At the moment, doing well for the country is my top priority. If I succeed and am lucky, I’ll smash it. However, I don’t even think about it,” Umran said.

“You don’t get to realize how swiftly you’ve bowled throughout the game. Until we returned home after the game, we were unaware of how swift I was. The 23-year-old bowler stated, “I just focus on getting wickets and bowling in the right areas during the game.”

In the ODI series against Bangladesh last month, Umran made his last appearance for India. The speedster is a popular pick to play in the ODI World Cup in 2023, which will be held in India later this year. In the IPL 2023 season, Umran will continue to play for the Sunrisers.
