In the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka on Sunday at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, Virat Kohli was in imperious form, slamming unbeaten innings of 166 runs off 110 balls as he assisted India in posting 390 for five in 50 overs. The 34-year-explosive old’s innings included 13 fours and 8 sixes. Shubman Gill, the opener, who also had a tonne of catches, provided excellent assistance for him. With 14 fours and two sixes, Gill scored 116 runs off 97 balls.

Another significant contribution came from captain Rohit Sharma, who scored 42 runs off 49 balls while hitting two fours and three sixes. Shreyas Iyer scored 38 runs off 32 balls in the meanwhile. KL Rahul, a wicketkeeper-batter, was only able to contribute seven runs to the scoreboard in the previous game, while Suryakumar Yadav could only conjure four runs off four deliveries.

After India’s innings, in which they set a goal of 391 runs, supporters gushed over Virat Kohli on Twitter. One supporter said, “Virat Kohli, thanks for making 100s boring once again.”

Former player Yuvraj Singh said in the meanwhile, “Well done, @ShubmanGill. Hopefully, this will lead to a solid @imVkohli batting performance at the other end! Concern for me, however, is a half-empty stadium. Is cricket becoming extinct one day? #IndiavsSrilanka.”

One supporter said, “King Kohli’s dominance at Kerala, 166* runs from only 110 balls, Take a bow, GOAT.”

Added another admirer, “Virat Kohli put on a show, scoring 166* in only 110 balls, with 13 fours and 8 sixes. What an inning, and what a player! King Kohli, bend down!”

Another commented, saying, “Comparing Virat Kohli with a man like Babar Azam is a shame to cricket.”

Kasun Rajitha, who bowled for Sri Lanka, claimed two wickets but gave up 81 runs in 10 overs. Lahiru Kumara, who had two dismissals and gave up 87 runs in 10 overs, was also involved. In eight overs and one wicket, Chamika Karunaratne gave up 58 runs.
