Travis Head has decided to skip the first few matches of the Sri Lanka T20I series to play a match in the Sheffield Shield for South Australia. Head will now be able to play Victoria, who will have Marcus Harris and Scott Boland in their lineup, along with South Australian teammate Alex Carey. After being omitted from the last Ashes Test to make room for Usman Khawaja, Harris is likely to secure a spot for the Pakistan trip.

Head, who last played a T20I in 2018, was one of the players recalled for the match against Sri Lanka, but it was deemed that he would benefit from a first-class game before facing Pakistan next month, after his player-of-the-series performances in the Ashes. In Melbourne, he will rejoin the T20 team.

Steven Smith, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood are all in the T20I team to face Sri Lanka, while Nathan Lyon is slated to play for New South Wales against Queensland.

According to espncricinfo, due to border limitations, Western Australia will not play in the Sheffield Shield until next month, meaning Cameron Green and Mitchell Marsh-the latter of whom was rested from the Sri Lanka T20Is-will have no cricket until Pakistan visits. Jhye Richardson, a member of the T20I team, has already indicated that he would not go to Pakistan.
