The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fired the entire Chetan Sharma-led National Selection Committee on Friday in their first significant move following India’s heartbreaking semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup and invited new applicants for the position. The committee also had Sunil Joshi, Harvinder Singh, and Debashish Mohanty as members. Following the big news, Virat Kohli memes flooded Twitter, the social media platform.

Fans recalled the entire incident that occurred after India’s disappointing group-stage exit from the T20 World Cup last year, which was followed by Kohli’s voluntary resignation from the T20I cricket captaincy. A month later he removed ODI captaincy which highlighted a huge underlying rift between Kohli and the BCCI administrators. Sourav Ganguly, the president of the BCCI, had previously stated that they had asked Kohli to reconsider his choice, and Chetan had echoed this. However, Kohli later denied this, claiming that he had only been informed one-and-a-half hours before the selection meeting for the South Africa tour. After the Test series in January, Kohli also decided to give up his position as Test captain.
