Team India players wear black armbands in the India – West Indies series, to commemorate Lata Mangeshkar’s death
On the morning of February 6, 2022, the sad news of Lata Mangeshkar’s death arrived, and it swept the entire country in grief and sadness. She was an ardent supporter of the Indian cricket team, and so as to respect her demise, the Indian players wore black armbands during the first match of the West Indies series.
The BCCI tweeted a message regarding the news that said, “Today, the Indian cricket team is wearing black armbands to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji, who passed away on Sunday morning. Lata Didi, the Queen of Music, adored cricket and was a staunch supporter of Team India”.
In 2002, the Men in Blue played their 500th match, and now, two decades later, they have surpassed the milestone of 1000 ODIs. “It’s a momentous day in Indian cricket; India has come a long way. There have been many ups and downs. We’ve developed as a team throughout the years, and we’ll continue to do so,” Rohit remarked at the coin toss to commemorate the milestone.
