Tamim receives NOC to play in Everest Premier League

Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh opener who is ready to compete in the upcoming Everest Premier League, has acquired the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s No Objection Certificate to compete. Following a two-month recovery from a knee injury, his participation in the competition will mark his return to competitive cricket.

Tamim, who had missed three consecutive T20I series due to injury – against Zimbabwe, Australia, and New Zealand – and had withdrawn from the upcoming T20 WC, began his preparation on September 19 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Tamim had intended to participate in the EPL as part of his preparation for the T20 World Cup, but he later opted against it. Tamim has received the NOC, according to Akram Khan, the chairman of the BCB Cricket Operations. As part of his conditioning, the southpaw hit in the nets for 50 minutes and even went through some fielding drills.

Debashish Chowdhury, the BCB’s chief physician, who examined Tamim while batting in the nets, said that he expects him to be fully fit for the event, which will be held in Nepal from September 25 to October 9.

Tamim’s right knee had been injured during Bangladesh’s two-Test trip to Sri Lanka in April and May. He then played in the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League in the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. However, after aggravating the injury while playing in the league, he had to withdraw from the competition and miss the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. Tamim skipped the T20 leg after leading the side in the ODI series in Zimbabwe and went through a recovery programme when he returned home.
