The BCCI released the lineups for the first two Tests of the four-match series against Australia as well as the teams for the forthcoming T20I and ODI series against New Zealand. There were several well-known players and some major shocks, including Prithvi Shaw’s return to the Indian squad after 537 days away. He is on the team for the T20 matches against New Zealand. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have also received their first Test call-ups from the BCCI. In the home series against England, Surya was chosen as a substitute in the Test squad, but this was the first time he was included in the starting Test team.

Despite the shocks, Sarfaraz Khan’s absence from the team for the two Test matches against Australia in Nagpur (February 9-13) and Delhi left supporters in disbelief (February 17-21). In five games for Mumbai in the current Ranji Trophy, the 25-year-old has amassed 431 runs, including two tonnes and a half-century. The hitter scored 982 runs in six games last season, averaging 122.75. Additionally, he hit four centuries. Given his form, many supporters believed he should have been chosen above Suryakumar or Kishan.

Rishabh Pant’s horrific road accident, which is likely to have kept him out of action for approximately six months, makes Kishan’s selection as KS Bharat’s backup goalkeeper acceptable. However, choosing Suryakumar over Sarfaraz is sure to cause a lot of controversies. Particularly in light of the Indian team’s management, including captain Rohit Sharma, publicly declaring that they do not mix formats when choosing squads.

“It is disrespectful to the Ranji Trophy to choose Suryakumar Yadav over Sarfaraz Khan in Test matches. That person more than anybody else deserves to be called up since he has been one of the most reliable run scorers in First Class cricket. Again, this committee’s choice is perplexing,” was the response.

“It’s safe to assume that with Ishan Kishan and SKY in the lineup, the importance of Ranji’s performances has started to decline while public opinion has begun to gain more power. Ishan is still comprehensible, but the SKY lineup bewilders me and won’t inspire confidence in players like Sarfaraz and Hanuma “someone remarked.

According to renowned cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, “Very tough on Sarfaraz Khan, who has utterly shattered the first-class cricket door. You are limited to what he has accomplished.”

Surely Sarfaraz Khan is destroyed! When will he get compensated for his efforts? It’s incredibly difficult to accept when a player consistently scores a tonne of points but still isn’t selected while practically everyone else gets a spot.”

The Test team will be captained by Rohit, with KL Rahul serving as his backup. Veterans like Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ravindra Jadeja make up the team. Mohammed Shami will be in charge of the pace batteries in the meantime.
