Since the advent of COVID-19 in India, all major sporting events have seen a change in their operations and have faced many logistics and scheduling issues due to state regulations. Even IPL 2022 is facing such a challenge and its venues are still a topic of discussion within the BCCI. This IPL season will most likely be held in India unless the number of COVID-19 cases increases, in which case it will be held in a foreign country.

Sourav Ganguly voiced his opinion in this regard, and according to his statements recorded by Sportstar, Mumbai and Pune are two possible cities where it could be hosted. “It will be hosted in India this year unless COVID-19 reaches new heights. In terms of locations, the matches will be held in Maharashtra, specifically in Mumbai and Pune. The venues for the knockout stages will be decided later”, Ganguly stated.

The previous season was hosted in the UAE due to COVID, and a recent breakout of the virus in the Indian cricket team camp might force the BCCI to reconsider hosting the IPL in India. The mega auction for the IPL 2022 will start on February 12 and it will see a major shift in the landscape of IPL teams and players. With 2 new teams inducted into this season, it is expected that this time the league will be played for a longer duration.
