Smriti Mandhana nominated for ICC Women’s T20 Player of the Year 2021
Mandhana was nominated for the ICC Women’s T20 Player of the Year 2021 award on Thursday and her competitors for the award include the likes of Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver Gaby Lewis. In nine T20 appearances in 2021, Mandhana made 255 runs at an average of 31.87, including two half-centuries.
She was a key player in the first of the two victories, hitting 48 off just 28 balls in the final T20I against South Africa. The victory saved India’s blushes, as they avoided a clean whitewash. With 119 runs in the T20I series against England, Mandhana was India’s leading run-scorer, although he lacked help from the rest of the batsmen. She was India’s best scorer in both of India’s losses, including a 51-ball 70 in the last T20I that was in vain. However, no Indian is among the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year 2021 nominees. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh, Babar Azam of Pakistan, Janneman Malan of South Africa, and Paul Stirling of Ireland are the four players in contention for the award. These awards will honour outstanding performances in cricket from the previous year.
