As the BCB released a 20-man team on Tuesday, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and bowler Taskin Ahmed returned to Bangladesh’s Test squad for the second and final Test against Pakistan, while opener Mohammad Naim Sheikh received his first call-up to the Test squad (November 30). Nobody was left out of the starting lineup for the first Test.

Taskin and Shakib were certified healthy after the all-hamstring rounder’s injury prevented him from playing in the Chattogram Test, which Bangladesh lost by eight wickets to Pakistan. The series’ final Test is slated to commence on December 4th. After getting thrashed in the T20I series and trailing in the Test series, this is Bangladesh’s last chance to win a single match against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh’s hitters may be looking for a means to move the Chattogram pitch to Mirpur, where the second Test will be played. These days, the route connecting the two is fantastic. A river cargo route is also available. Of course, the bowlers would not necessarily assist in the shipping process, but the pitch for the first Test against Pakistan came as a breath of new air for the home side at a time when the team’s confidence was low.

Despite a pitch that had more runs in it, Bangladesh’s hitters didn’t put up much of a fight. Only Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim scored runs in both innings, although Yasir Ali got off to a good start in the second before suffering a concussion. The top order, including skipper Mominul Haque, a Chattogram monster, crashed twice. Chattogram provided some respite to the hitters after more than four months of battling drought, which included a time when they didn’t score a half-century or put up a 50-run stand for four weeks.

Bangladesh is one of the few cricket teams in the world that constantly plays in bowling-friendly conditions at home and overseas. Wherever possible, they are supplied with green-tinged and pacy pitches as they travel. Their home strategy, notably at Mirpur, has been to assist the spinners since 2016. Because Bangladesh batters struggle on these pitches, it has backfired as often as it has worked.
