Inflicted with a knee injury on Sunday, Pakistan’s star bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi will now miss the whole Asia Cup 2022, a devastating loss before their much-awaited battle with India in the tournament’s first game in Dubai. Given that Afridi has been instructed to rest for 4-6 weeks, it seems probable that he will also miss the T20I series against England.

Afridi injured his right knee ligaments while fielding during the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. He has now been recommended to take a break for at least a month by the PCB Medical Advisory Committee and independent doctors, which means the young player will miss two important series for Pakistan but is anticipated to return before Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in Australia.

To ensure the player’s safe comeback to competitive cricket, PCB’s Sports & Exercise Medicine Department will closely monitor him over the coming weeks.

While completing his recuperation, Afridi will continue to represent Pakistan on the field. Later, PCB will reveal a player who would replace Afridi for the Asia Cup match.
