Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s premier fast bowler from the first Test, will miss the second match against Sri Lanka beginning on Sunday due to an injured knee. In the first test, the 22-year-old Afridi stood out among both sides’ seamers, ending with four wickets in Pakistan’s first innings, which they won in Galle by a margin of four wickets.

Officials from the Pakistani squad stated on Friday that he will not participate in the second Test. After Sri Lanka’s first innings, Afridi had taken 99 Test wickets, ending expectations that he would reach the milestone of 100 wickets in the second Test. On day three, while fielding at midwicket, Afridi dove to block a Dinesh Chandimal boundary and was afterward seen limping off the field. Despite there being no fracture, he was ruled out after being sent for scans.

As substitutes, Pakistan boasts the all-around seam bowler Faheem Ashraf and the uncapped fast Harris Rauf. Mahesh Theekshana was ruled out of the game, therefore Sri Lanka substituted uncapped off-spinner Lakshitha Manasinghe. During the first Test, Theekshana had a cut on his right index finger.

Pathum Nissanka, who had tested positive for COVID-19 during the Australia series, was also summoned back by the hosts.
