Shreyas Iyer, who many people predict will lead Team India in the future, had a strong 2022 and finished it as the third-highest run-scorer in all of international cricket. The daring batsman scored 1609 runs from 39 games, averaging 48.75, in 39 matches, including a century and 14 half-centuries. His highest total was an unbroken 113-run knock.

The year’s best run-scorer was Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who amassed 2598 runs from 44 games at an average of 54.12. Azam also hit 17 half-centuries, eight tonnes, and a top score of 196. Litton Das, meanwhile, came in second place with 1921 runs in 42 contests, averaging 40.02. The Bangladeshi cricketer also scored a high of 141 and smashed three hundred and 13 half-centuries.

Iyer, the captain of KKR, spoke about his first encounter with Sachin Tendulkar and said that the cricket icon from India is “obsessed” with the game. When a young Iyer, like every aspiring Indian cricketer, saw the renowned Tendulkar and asked him for advice, he was still toiling away on the local circuit.

“When I was 14 years old, Sachin Sir visited BKC to inspire us ahead of the competition. I had a one-on-one conversation with him at the Ranji Trophy final, which was the first time I had ever met him. I questioned him about his technique and posture, which always changes throughout matches, during our short conversation. What shall I do, I questioned him. Iyer recently spoke with Mashable India and he stated, “Dekh Shreyas, whatever you believe is great for that day, it is the proper thing to do.

“Sachin sir is fixated on cricket. He will merely keep talking and offer you a tonne of advice. Do whatever you feel comfortable with on that specific day, he said after saying that.

The forthcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, which is set to start on January 10 in Guwahati, will be Iyer’s first match of 2023. On January 12, the second ODI will be played in Kolkata, while on January 15, the third ODI will be played in Trivandrum. The three-match T20I series, which will start on January 3, will be followed by the ODI series.
