Jason Roy, Colin Munro, Tim David, Chris Jordan, and Hazratullah Zazai were among the Platinum picks in the draft for the 2022 season of the PSL, which was held on Sunday. Fakhar Zaman was the lone Pakistani player among the Platinum picks (December 12). In the Platinum category, Quetta Gladiators chose Roy, while in the Diamond category, they chose James Faulkner. Gladiators Silver choices were Ben Duckett, Khurram Shehzad, Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq, Sohail Tanvir, and Umar Akmal.

Defending champions Multan Sultans chose David, who formerly played for Lahore Qalandars, over West Indian Odean Smith in the Diamond category. Sultans’ Silver category selections included Asif Afridi, Anwar Ali, Imran Khan Snr, Rumman Raees, and Rovman Powell. The Sultans selected Blessing Muzarabani as one of their two Supplementary players. For the sixth season in a row, Zaman was named Qalandars’ Platinum player, while Abdullah Shafique and the England combo of Harry Brook and Phil Salt were named Gold. Dean Foxcroft and Kamran Ghulam of South Africa were Qalandars’ Silver choices.

Jordan was re-signed by the Karachi Kings as the Platinum selection after missing the 2021 season, while another England star Lewis Gregory was drafted from the Diamond category. In the Silver category, the Kings chose England’s Tom Abell, as well as Mohammad Imran, Rohail Nazir, and Umaid Asif.

Peshawar Zalmi chose Zazai in the Platinum category, as well as Usman Qadir in the Gold category, and Arshad Iqbal, Kamran Akmal, Salman Irshad, and Sameen Gul in the Silver category. Ben Cutting of Australia was picked as a Supplementary player.

Islamabad Munro was chosen as United’s Platinum pick – the out-of-favor New Zealand opener was selected in the Diamond category last year but had to withdraw due to quarantine difficulties. United chose Marchant de Lange from the Diamond category, while England’s Reece Topley, Danish Aziz, Muhammad Akhlaq, and Zafar Gohar were selected from the Silver category. Rehmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan was chosen as United’s Supplementary player.
