India may have lost the second ODI and the series to Bangladesh, but Rohit Sharma, the team’s captain, deserves accolades for his valiant attempt to lift his team to victory despite suffering a dislocated thumb. Although India will be quite sad to have lost the first two games of the series, their skipper made an effort that was nothing short of heroic. In the second over of the contest, Rohit injured his left thumb while trying to take a catch. He quickly left the field while grimacing in discomfort, and was subsequently brought to the hospital.

Naturally, the India captain was unable to participate in the team’s fielding and was unable to enter the field to begin the batting. After images of Rohit’s severely bandaged left thumb during India’s innings, it was assumed that he wouldn’t bat, but Rohit stunned everyone by coming up to the plate after India’s seventh wicket fell.

On his way to an undefeated 51 off 28 balls, he struck up to five sixes, shattering Chris Gayle’s record for the quickest 500 international sixes, but he came agonizingly short of giving India the victory. When 12 runs were required off of two balls, Rohit struck a six, but Bangladeshi left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman responded with a brilliant yorker to give the hosts the victory.

During Rohit’s bravery with the bat, a tweet he sent three years ago following the 2019 ODI World Cup went viral. Along with a picture of him coming out to bat in the India ODI, Rohit had added in that tweet, “I don’t only walk out for my Team. I walk out for my nation.

Fans began praising the opener for risking his life for his nation in the comments section of Rohit’s post.

The Indian skipper flew back to Mumbai to get treatment for what seemed to be a seriously damaged thumb. On Saturday’s third and final ODI, he won’t take the field. After losing the first two games of the series, vice-captain KL Rahul will take over as the team’s captain as they attempt to restore their dignity.

Rohit’s participation in the two-game Test series that begins on December 14 is seriously questioned. If he is unable to recover then Rahul will once again lead India while India A skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is already in Bangladesh, will be added to the Test squad as a backup.
