In preparation for the showcase trip to England in July, many prominent players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, will be rested for the next five-match T20 series against South Africa. In addition, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are expected to be left out of the Proteas’ commitments by the national selection committee.

Shikhar Dhawan, the veteran opener, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who stunned everyone with his captaincy for Gujarat Titans in the IPL-15, are thought to be in the race for the leadership position for both South Africa and the short two-match T20I series against Ireland. The T20 series against the Proteas kicks off on June 9 in New Delhi, with the remaining matches taking place in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bengaluru.

On May 22nd, the final day of the league phase of this year’s IPL, the squad for the SA series is scheduled to be named in Mumbai. The PTI has already reported that an out-of-form Virat Kohli will be given a well-deserved rest, but the selectors and BCCI are known to be focused on the England visit, which starts in early July.

“At least three and a half weeks break would be offered to all senior Indian players. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh, and Jasprit will all head to England for the ‘fifth Test’ following the white-ball series. We need all of our key players to be fresh for the England series.” A top BCCI source with knowledge of the situation spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity.

As part of workload management, all senior all-format players will miss the next seven T20 Internationals.
