Richa Ghosh, an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, has been signed by the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2021 Women’s Big Bash League season, the organisation announced on Friday (October 1). The 18-year-old is the 7th Indian player from the current roster to join the WBBL in Australia.

Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma (Sydney Thunder), Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues (Melbourne Renegades), Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers), Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues (Melbourne Renegades), Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers) are other six players who will compete in the WBBL 2020/21 season.

Richa Ghosh, who turned 18 this week, is well-versed in Australian conditions and plans to stay in the nation for the foreseeable future. In Australia, she made her T20I and ODI debuts. Ghosh, who was 16 at the time, made her T20I debut during the tri-series leading up to the 2020 T20 World Cup. She made her ODI debut for India last month.

Richa Ghosh has played nine T20Is in her second year of international cricket, hitting 126 runs at an average of 21 and striking at over 112. She had a strong start to her ODI career, scoring 32 not out and 44 runs in her first two games.

This deal will be a significant boost for Hobart, who were forced to part ways with Rachel Trenaman and Lizelle Lee only weeks before the season began. Ruth Johnston and Angelina Genford, both teens, have been recruited to the team.
