The Chennai Super Kings, captained by MS Dhoni, has been one of the most powerful teams in the Indian Premier League. The “Yellow Unit” has won the championship four times already and will seek to repeat the feat when the new season begins on March 26.

However, with Dhoni, 40, reaching the end of his career, the team may begin seeking replacements to fill the talismanic cricketer’s shoes.

Former India batter Aakash Chopra expressed his thoughts on the matter, naming two players the club should invest in cultivating as future leaders. He was quick to emphasise, however, that the organisation would not rush in this area and would instead concentrate on the present before making any major decisions regarding the future.

“There’s plenty of area for grooming. But the issue is, how will you go about doing it? When a season begins, it’s simple to put “VC” in front of anyone’s name. However, you must determine if they can really provide useful inputs and insights. Jadeja and Moeen may certainly play a role in the decision-making process, but when MS Dhoni is available, the game is over. Ravindra Jadeja seems to be the logical pick, having been retained at a higher fee than Dhoni. Will there be any grooming flashes, though? No, I don’t believe so.” Chopra said.
