Bhanuka Rajapaksha has taken back his decision to retire from international cricket and withdrawn his resignation letter from SLC. “I’ve carefully evaluated my role as a player and spouse, and I’m making this choice in anticipation of parenthood and the responsibilities that come with it,” he stated. Although one might argue that it could be something more than that, still, on the bright side, he will be available for all the formats.

SLC has given a statement regarding the same. “Bhanuka Rajapaksa has told SLC that he desires to retract his resignation, which he offered to SLC on January 3, 2022, with immediate effect, following a meeting with Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports, and after discussing with the National Selectors.”

The revised fitness criteria for Sri Lankan players are said to have influenced Rajapaksa’s decision to quit. Before his public criticism of the board and issues with head coach Mickey Arthur following his exclusion from the team, the 30-year-old had established himself as a regular in the Sri Lanka setup. As a result, he was fined $5,000 before eventually earning his way back into the national squad.
