The BCCI confirmed on Friday that India batsman and vice-captain KL Rahul, as well as left-arm spinner Axar Patel, had been ruled out of the T20I series against the West Indies. Ruturaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Deepak Hooda have taken their spots.

India’s vice-captain Rahul skipped the third and final One-Day International against West Indies, which is now being played, with skipper Rohit Sharma claiming that Rahul was suffering from a niggle. After being run out for 49 in the second ODI, Rahul was spotted favouring his lower back on his way back to the dressing room.

However, the BCCI has verified that Rahul hurt his left hamstring during fielding and will miss the three T20Is that begin on February 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Axar, on the other hand, seemed to be on the mend and was chosen in the T20I squad, but it was later revealed that the left-arm spinner would need additional time before being certified match-fit.

According to Hindustan Times, “On the 9th of February 2022, Rahul suffered an upper left hamstring injury while fielding in the 2nd ODI, while Axar began the last part of his rehabilitation after recovering from COVID-19. They’ll now go to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy for further treatment of their injuries.”
