Ajinkya Rahane, the veteran Indian hitter, has had a difficult time scoring runs during the previous 12 months. In 13 Tests in 2021, the 33-year-old scored just 479 runs at a terrible average of 20.83. As a consequence, he was deprived of his position as India’s vice-captain in the game’s longest format. His position on the side has also been scrutinized.

“Sometimes, the fact is, when you play just one format, particularly in the past 2-3 years when there hasn’t been any Ranji cricket or other domestic games, I believe it has to be taken into consideration,” Rahane remarked on Backstage with Boria and reported by cricktracker.

“No matter how often you practice or have net sessions, you will not build confidence by doing so. Game time and scoring runs in matches help build confidence. Prior to it, I had been playing ODI cricket for Team India on a regular basis and was doing well. I was suddenly discarded; I’m not going to get into it; I’m not going to go into my background; nonetheless, the fact is that I was performing well in 2014, 15, 16, and 17. Both ODI and Test cricket were performing admirably. After that, I didn’t get much game time since there was such a long gap between test matches”, he concluded.
