The predicted lineup for India’s second ODI vs. South Africa: Will an IPL player play in the series finale in Ranchi?
As bowler Deepak Chahar was ruled out of the rest of the bilateral series due to injury, Team India was dealt a severe setback before the second One Day International (ODI). The pacer Chahar, who was previously considered for the T20 World Cup, has returned to Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) with a stiff back. The second-string Indian team will take on South Africa in the second ODI on Sunday at the JSCA International Stadium Complex under the captaincy of seasoned opener Shikhar Dhawan.
Following a 9-run loss against the Proteas, Dhawan-led Team India will play in the last game of the series. The Temba Bavuma-led team reached 249-4 in the 40-over match because of Heinrich Klaasen’s (74*) and David Miller’s (75*) outstanding batting performances. During the rain-shortened match at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson led a remarkable recovery for the hosts after Dhawan-led India had been reduced to 51-4.
After playing forgettable innings in the first ODI against South Africa, veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan (4) and his partner-in-crime Shubman Gill (3) would be looking for better performance with the willow. Ruturaj Gaikwad (19) and Ishan Kishan (20), two IPL superstars, both failed to capitalize on their respective starts in the first ODI between India and South Africa.
Iyer and Samson are unquestionable starts in the Indian playing XI for the second ODI, with Iyer contributing with a 47-ball 50 and Samson finishing undefeated on 86 off 63 balls. The Indian think tank now has another spin-bowling alternative in Washington Sundar in place of Chahar in addition to Ravi Bishnoi.
In the first game of the series, the rookie made his ODI debut but ended up giving up 69 runs. In order to replace Bishnoi in the Indian starting XI for the series finale, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed is in the running. In place of injured fast bowler Chahar on Sunday, Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar also has a remote chance of leading the pace attack for the Dhawan-led team.
The predicted lineup for India’s second ODI matchup with South Africa:
Shubman Gill and Shikhar Dhawan are the starters.
Middle Order: Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad (wk)
Strong player: Ishan Kishan
Spinners: Ravi Bishnoi, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Kuldeep Yadav
Shardul Thakur, Avesh Khan, and Mohammed Siraj are pace bowlers.
Indian team traveling to South Africa ODIs: Shikhar Dhawan(c), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson(w), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj, Rahul Tripathi, Rajat Patidar, Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar.
