Former India spinner Venkatesh Prasad criticized captain Rohit Sharma, the selectors, and the team management for benching Ishan Kishan in the first ODI match against Sri Lanka in Guwahati. The fastest double century ever was scored by Kishan in India’s most recent ODI against Bangladesh in December, when he replaced an injured Rohit Sharma who was unable to play owing to a dislocated thumb. However, Shubam Gill will get the ball for India against Sri Lanka on Tuesday to begin the series. Rohit had already said as much at the press conference before the game, so it was expected.

“Both of the openers have done well. However, it only seems fair to give Gill a chance to have a good run considering how both openers have performed.” Rohit said before the first game.

Gill was one of India’s top run scorers a year ago, but for whatever reason, that is not clear, he was left out of the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. He batted first and totaled 687 runs in 13 innings while maintaining a batting average of 57 or higher and a strikeout rate of at least 99.

“In the most recent games, Ishan and Gill both earned several runs. I won’t take anything away from him (Ishan). He has performed well for us and scored 200. And I understand what it takes to get a double hundred, which is a remarkable accomplishment.” The only player to record three double-hundred-point performances in ODIs is Rohit.

To be honest and fair to the guys who have done exceptionally well in the past, we need to give those people enough chances before we pass judgment.

Rohit, who characterized the circumstance as awful, said that Ishan would have his opportunity. They have 15 One Day Internationals and the Asia Cup planned before the World Cup in October-November.
