Saeed Ajmal, a Pakistani bowler, established himself as one of the top cricketers of the 2010s. Despite making his international debut at age 31, Ajmal has led the ICC Rankings throughout his career. The spinner played for Pakistan in 35 Tests, 113 ODIs, and 67 T20Is. Ajmal played his last match for the team in 2015, and despite the controversy that dogged his bowling motion throughout his career, he is still regarded as one of Pakistan’s greatest spinners.

The former spinner, however, has since admitted that his international career came to a somewhat unfortunate conclusion, stating that the PCB chairman at the time didn’t want Ajmal to play for Pakistan despite his impressive local cricket accomplishments.

Jab main redesign karke aya, mujhe bas ek match khilaaya. Inzy’s brother’s words, “Domestic me perform karo.” If a domestic worker is performing at home, then what is the major function of the khelu? My name and reputation go together. It’s “vo bolein, nai, karein.” Karachi is the main thing here. (I only played one game when I came back after changing my action. I was invited to participate in domestic cricket by Inzy bhai. I said, “I’ve built a reputation, and yet they want me to demonstrate it?” Yes, as Inzy bhai said, you must. On the Ultra Edge podcast, Ajmal started by saying, “I played for Karachi then.

“Karachi hadn’t previously won a T20 match. In that match, I had 20 wickets, and Karachi won the championship trophy. Unhone kaha ki chairman sahab nahi chah rahe ki aap khelein, Maine call ki Inzy bhai ko. Main vaapis aa gaya, Maine kaha theek hai. Dobara T20 tournaments aaya, first-class me 4-5 matches khela, and usme main second-highest wicket-taker tha. (The T20 tournament has never been won by Karachi. I phoned Inzy bhai once again, but he informed me that the chairman did not want me to participate. I resumed playing domestic T20 cricket and did well).

“Maine pucha ki, is there a possibility that I may play for Pakistan once more? They rejected it. Main retirement le raha hu me kaha ki. I appreciate all of your help. (I re-asked, “Is there any possibility that I’ll get to play for Pakistan once more? They rejected it. Then I decided to resign,” Ajmal stated.
