After fast bowler Haris Rauf was ruled out due to COVID-19, Pakistan was forced to make additional changes to their team for the first Test against Australia. As a consequence, Naseem Shah, who was previously a travelling reserve, has been called up to the starting lineup. Following the positive test, Rauf will be placed in isolation for five days, after which he will rejoin the team. Following Rauf’s positive result, the PCB reported that the remainder of the team and support personnel were retested, with all tests coming back negative.

Despite never having played in a Test match for Pakistan, Rauf is now a regular part of the white-ball teams and was set to make his red-ball debut in Rawalpindi after the injuries to Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf. Naseem, who last played in a Test in January 2021 in Christchurch, is expected to compete with Mohammad Wasim Jr for a position in the starting XI for the March 4th match.
