Mushfiqur Rahim, who was left out of the Bangladesh team for the Pakistan T20Is only a day ago, has refuted the claim that he was rested. Mushfiqur claimed he didn’t “need rest” and informed the team’s management that he was available, but they decided to drop him as a group. Mushfiqur told Channel 24 on Wednesday, “To be honest, I haven’t reached the stage where I have to inform someone that I need relaxation.I am unquestionably available. Why am I not going to be there? Obviously, the World Cup was a disappointment for me. I needed a chance to get back on my feet.”

Minhajul had stated, “We have four back-to-back Test matches against Pakistan and New Zealand. He’s a vital cog in the machine. He’s one of our most talented players. Tamim Iqbal has already sustained an injury. For the Test series, he is in doubt. We want our best player to give his all throughout the Test series, so we’ve chosen to rest him after discussing with the team’s management. It’s only applicable to the Pakistan series. He’ll be available at a later time.”

On Thursday in Dhaka, captain Mahmudullah’s pre-match press conference was dominated by the topic. Mahmdullah distanced himself from the decision, stating that the question should be directed to the team management (of which he is a member, as captain). I was asked if I was available, to which I replied, “Of course.” However, I was told that the selection committee, team management, head coach, and team director all decided to let me go.”

Minhajul Abedin, the top selector, had argued two days ago that Mushfiqur was “resting” since the three T20Is commencing on Friday required him to remain fresh for the two Tests against Pakistan.

Since the World Cup in the UAE, where they lost all five games in the Super 12s round and began their campaign with a six-run loss to Scotland, Mahmdullah has been in the spotlight. He was chastised for his captaincy as well as his undefeated 31 off 24 in the chase against the West Indies; when he came out to bat, Bangladesh required 53 runs off 39 balls, but fell three runs short.
