Sri Lankan cricketers Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella have been suspended from the squad due to a bio-bubble breach in the United Kingdom. All three cricketers will be sent home from Durham right away.

Mendis and Dickwella were seen outside of the team’s bio-bubble in a Twitter video, prompting the statement. The three cricketers have been suspended from all forms of the game until the outcome of an investigation.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to inform that vice-captain Kusal Mendis, wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella, and batsman Danushka Gunathilaka will be flown back to Sri Lanka, with immediate effect,” the SLC said in a statement on Monday (June 28). “This decision was taken following a preliminary inquiry conducted over a video posted on Social Media in which the said three players can be seen outside their designated hotel”.

Gunathilaka has been caught on the wrong side of the law on multiple occasions. In 2017, he was suspended for six games due to a misbehavior. After late-night partying, he was claimed to have skipped a training session. In another incident, he showed up at the stadium without his equipment bag on a match day. He was suspended in 2018 after an incident involving an alleged sexual assault.
