Maxwell, du Plessis, Mandhana among overseas stars retained for Hundred 2022
Several foreign players, including Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, Smriti Mandhana, and Ellyse Perry, have been retained by their respective sides for the 2022 edition of The Hundred, the ECB said on Tuesday (February 22). The countries have retained around 150 men’s and women’s players, including 28 centrally contracted England players, including limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan. Apart from Maxwell and Du Plessis, New Zealand pacer Adam Milne, Afghanistan spin prodigy Rashid Khan, Marchant de Lange, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David have all been retained for the men’s team.
On March 30, 17 additional international positions, as well as 25 local spaces, will be filled in the draft. Teams are able to choose a fourth foreign player in a wildcard draft in June, despite the fact that they are only allowed to have three abroad players in the XI. India’s Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues will compete for their respective teams in the women’s competition. Perry and Alyssa Healy have been retained by Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers, despite the fact that the Australian players did not participate last year. There are a total of 12 international talents that have been retained. The ECB said in its announcement that “the women’s squads will be finalized via the open market signing procedure, which closes at the end of June.”
