Former Sri Lanka captains Kusal Perera and Angelo Mathews will be among the top cricketers absent from the Lanka Premier League 2021 after failing to make the draughts for the upcoming season. The LPL 2021 will be held in Colombo and Hambantota from December 4 to 23. Some well-known Sri Lankan names, however, are not included in the franchises. According to ESPNcricinfo, Kusal Perera, who was a member of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup squad and led the country earlier this year, was a late addition to the draught due to “miscommunication between Sri Lanka Cricket and his club.”

Last year, Mathews, who is no longer a member of the national team, was Colombo’s icon player and was available for selection but was not chosen. Dhananjaya de Silva, a senior allrounder, was left out of the team, as were Minod Bhanuka, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Sadeera Samarawickrama. In the last few months, each of these cricketers has played T20Is for Sri Lanka.

Chris Gayle, Faf du Plessis, Tabraiz Shamsi, Imran Tahir, Najibullah Zadran, Taskin Ahmed, and Mohammad Hafeez are among the SLC’s big international players. The SLC and LPL franchises have recently been at odds, resulting in a change of ownership and a postponement of the tournament. At least three of the five franchises from the first season have changed hands, with the Galle Gladiators being the only one to keep their name. Even the owners of last season’s champions, the Jaffna Stallions, were formally kicked out of the tournament last month.
