Langer’s future remains uncertain after 8-hour long board meeting
Justin Langer is in the midst of a conflict-contract situation where his future and role as Australia cricket team’s coach, remains uncertain. Cricket Australia held a meeting to discuss his contract, which lasted for 8 hours and they still haven’t come to a conclusion. The meeting discussed a lot of issues concerning Australian cricket including Langer’s contract.
Nick Hockley who is the CA CEO has released a statement which has been reported by espncricinfo. He said, “Cricket Australia can confirm that the CA board met today, with major conversations over men’s head coach Justin Langer’s contract taking place as part of that meeting. We’ll now have a private conversation with Justin, and the conclusion will be publicized as soon as possible.”
Langer is still stuck in Melbourne and hasn’t gotten an opportunity to fly home to Perth, where he has to undergo a 14-day quarantine. Until this issue gets resolved, Andrew McDonald will coach the team for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The meeting was not entirely useless as some important agenda have come out fruitful. Australia tour of Pakistan has been finalized for all the 3 formats. The dates for the tour will likely overlap with the upcoming IPL and many players and coaches won’t be available for the Pakistan tour.
