After suffering a shoulder injury, Kusal Perera is most likely to miss Sri Lanka’s series against India. The team has not revealed the nature of the injury or officially pulled him, but a team doctor believes he’ll be out for six weeks.

According to reports, the left-handed batsman has not participated in any of the training sessions leading up to the series against India. Perera will be monitored by a Sri Lankan medical team, and an official announcement will be made on the topic.

Even though Perera is no longer the team’s captain, having been replaced by Dasun Shanaka following the players’ and board’s contract standoff, he remains one of Sri Lanka’s prominent batters in the top order. With Niroshan Dickwella still suspended in Durham for breaching the team bio-bubble, he is also the squad’s primary wicketkeeping option. Because of Perera’s likely absence, as well as the absences of Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, and Danushka Gunathilaka (all of whom bat in the top five), Sri Lanka will have a second-string top order.

Perera has recently been in good form in one-day international cricket. He made a century and a fifty in his last five ODI innings and has scored 30 or more runs in three of his last seven T20I innings as well.
