The Kohli-Shastri tandem led India to several significant victories, including a Test series victory in Australia and an excellent performance on the England tour this year. India performed well in bilateral series both at home and abroad, however the ICC events did not go their way during the series.

The following are among of India’s worst matches during the Kohli-Shastri era:

India vs New Zealand 2019 World Cup semifinal

The 2019 ODI World Cup presented the Kohli-Shastri tandem with their first major test. India dominated cricket in the round-robin round, but Kohli and his teammates faltered in the knockout stage, losing to New Zealand in the semifinals after rain hampered the Men in Blue.

Australia easily chased down the mark and established an early lead in the series with an 8-wicket victory. However, after Kohli’s departure, Ajinkya Rahane, Kohli’s deputy, was named captain of the Indian squad for the remainder of the series.

India vs New Zealand World Test Championship Final

Kane Williamson and his teammates won the maiden World Test Championship by an 8-wicket margin. It was the second time in the Kohli-Shastri era that India lost a knockout match.

India vs Pakistan 2021 T20 World Cup

In Dubai, Pakistan defeated India by ten wickets to end a five-match losing streak against their arch-rivals. Pakistan easily chased down the mark without losing a wicket, severely denting India’s confidence.

India vs New Zealand 2021 T20 World Cup

After losing to Pakistan, India faced their toughest test in ICC competitions – New Zealand – in the goal of resuming their T20 World Cup campaign. Unfortunately, the Indian hitters delivered yet another poor effort, letting the squad down.
