After one of their players tested positive for Covid-19, Kent was compelled to follow in the footsteps of England’s men’s team and name a brand-new squad for this week’s County Championship match against Sussex at Canterbury.

Following a positive PCR test on the eve of the match on Saturday, everyone of the squad members who played with him in Kent’s Vitality Blast encounter at the Kia Oval on Friday will be obliged to self-isolate for ten days.

Heino Kuhn, who did not play in Kent’s nine-wicket win over Surrey, has been named captain for the Sussex match. The start of the match was delayed by an hour as the club set about putting together a new line-up for the match, which included second XI players and homegrown prospects, all of whom had to pass the usual testing protocols before being selected.

Joe Gordon, Harry Houillon, Dan Lincoln, and Jas Singh all made their first-class debuts, while former Sussex batter Harry Finch, who has been playing for Kent’s 2nd XI, gets an opportunity to face his old club. Harry Podmore, Matt Quinn, Nathan Gilchrist, and Marcus O’Riordan, all regulars in the Championship side, were all included.
