Former India captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev believes that if Ravi Shastri continues to perform well, there is no reason to remove him from his position as head coach of the Indian cricket team. After the T20I World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman in October-November, Ravi Shastri’s contract will expire.

Rahul Dravid has been named India’s coach for the next tour of Sri Lanka, as Shastri is currently in England.

“I don’t think there is any need to speak about it. Let this Sri Lanka series get over. We will get to know the kind of performance our team has dished out,” Kapil told ABP New’.

“If you are trying to groom a new coach, there’s nothing wrong with it. Then again, if Ravi Shastri continues to do a good job, there’s no reason to remove him either. Only time will tell. Before that, I think it will put unnecessary pressure on our coaches and players.”

Shastri has led India to two Test series victories in Australia. India also reached the 2019 World Cup semi-final and the WTC Final under his leadership but lost both knockout games to New Zealand.

Virat Kohli and his side are preparing for a five-Test series in England, while a Shikhar Dhawan-led team will face hosts Sri Lanka in a limited over series starting from July 14.
