England will be without wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler as he has been ruled out of the rest of the white-ball series against Sri Lanka due to a right calf injury sustained on Wednesday.

In the first T20I, Buttler, England’s vice-captain and wicketkeeper opened with an unbeaten 68. He “felt stiffness and discomfort” at the end of the game, according to the ECB, and was sent for an MRI scan the next morning, which found a tiny tear. He did not play in the second Twenty20 International, which England won by five wickets.

He will then return home to begin his rehabilitation, while England has named Dawid Malan to their ODI team for the three-match series against the visitors.

Before Saturday’s third T20I match at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, England has already clinched the series. After that, the teams will play three One-Day Internationals in Chester-le-Street, The Oval, and Bristol.
