Jemimah Rodrigues, an India batter, has been signed by the Melbourne Renegades for her first season in the WBBL, where she will be joined by teammate Harmanpreet Kaur. Harmanpreet, who missed the current ODI series against Australia owing to injury, is most known for her unbeaten 171 in the 2017 World Cup semi-final and prior stints with Sydney Thunder.

With the induction of Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma (Sydney Thunder) and Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers) earlier this week, the Indian contingent for the seventh season of the WBBL now stands at six. The clubs are yet to announce at least one more Indian signing.

Rodrigues was the second-highest run-scorer at the Hundred in the UK, where she scored 249 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 150.90. She is part of India’s squad for the ongoing multi-format tour of Australia. Her performance at the tournament helped her overcome a poor run with India against England, in which she only played two ODIs, making 8 and 4, and was left out of the T20Is entirely.

She didn’t play in the ODI phase of the tour in Australia, and she’ll be up against Yastika Bhatia, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Punam Raut for a spot in the XI for the pink-ball Test commencing on Thursday. However, she is anticipated to be considered for a return to the T20I squad.

Rodrigues and Harmanpreet completed Renegades’ foreign additions, while Eve Jones, an uncapped English allrounder, also joined the club, bringing the club’s whole roster together for Sophie Molineux’s maiden season as captain.
