Jasprit Bumrah reaches 100-wicket milestone ‘away from home’, sets up unique record

Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate in any format, against any side, and at any venue. On the fourth day of the first Test against South Africa in Centurion, he created a new record by being the first Indian to take 100 wickets in Tests away from home. Bumrah gave India two key breakthroughs when he dismissed South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen barely 30 minutes into the day’s play. He got the ball to outswing a little bit, beating Van der Dussen’s outside edge to hit the top of the off-stump in what was perhaps the ‘delivery of the match.’

Then, in the final over before stumps, Bumrah went white-ball cricket with an unplayable yorker to clean out Keshav Maharaj, who had been playing some magnificent strokes since his appearance on the crease. Maharaj was Bumrah’s 101st Test scalp in international conditions, while Van van Dussen was his 100th.

It’s worth noting that Bumrah made his Test debut for India during the 2018 visit to South Africa. The 28-year-old has 105 Test victories to his credit, but only four of them have come at home. Only two of Bumrah’s 25 Test appearances for India have taken place at home. With Aiden Markram and Keegan Petersen back in the pavilion, South Africa had done quite well in the second innings, especially after being 34 for 2 at one point on Day 4. Dean Elgar, the captain, batted well throughout his innings and reached his half-century before the day’s play ended.
