Ishan Kishan has been named as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner for the first One-Day International against the West Indies. The first match will begin on February 6 and will be played in Ahmedabad. Mayank Agarwal is still going through the mandatory quarantine period, and Kishan was the only option that was perfect for this situation.

According to cricket.com, Rohit says, “On the eve of the series opener, Ishan Kishan is the only choice we have, and he will open with me. Mayank has been added to the squad, although he remains in isolation. We have some guidelines in place since he arrived (entered) late. If someone is travelling, we must place them in quarantine for a minimum of three days. Because he hasn’t finished his quarantine, Ishan will start the game. Unless there’s an injury, which we don’t have today since we have a training session”.

After Dhawan, Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer tested positive for COVID-19, their availability is still in doubt. “The three guys are currently being held in isolation. They’re doing rather well, which is a nice thing. But, yes, it’s all very unpredictable. You’ll notice someone becoming positive at the last minute, and you’ll need to make a change and get someone different. Look, it’s a hard position to be in (situation). There is so much unpredictability with COVID, and if it happens, the time it takes to recover varies depending on the person. It takes 7-8 days on average, but it might take up to 14 days on rare occasions”, Rohit concluded.
