The four-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winners Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable season, but it wasn’t all doom and gloom, according to former fast bowler Irfan Pathan. CSK missed the playoffs for just the second time in the IPL’s 15-year history, in a season in which MS Dhoni gave up leadership to Ravindra Jadeja, only to return as captain in the second half following a dismal run of losses.

CSK have enjoyed a more promising run of matches since his return, with players putting in performances that the brand can build on in the future, despite losses. CSK has five positives this season, according to Pathan.

“Despite the bad season for CSK, Here are the 5 positives for them. 1)Mukesh Choudhry 2)Davon Conway 3) Matheesha Pathirana 4) Maheesh Theekshana 5) Simarjeet Singh,” said Pathan in his tweet.

Since Dhoni took command, fast bowlers Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh, and Matheesha Pathirana have been regulars in the team. Pathirana, a Sri Lankan, has made waves with his slinging movement, which is comparable to that of pace legend Lasith Malinga. Meanwhile, Theekshana has 12 wickets in nine outings with an economy rate of 7.45.

Devon Conway, a wicketkeeper-batsman from New Zealand who made his Test debut in 2021 and achieved a double century, has proved that his thirst for runs is unaffected by the format of the game. Conway did not play when Jadeja was captain, but since joining the squad, he has started the innings alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and scored 252 runs at a strike rate of 145.66 in seven matches.
