Here are the five most expensive retained players in IPL 2022 who have so far proven to be massive flops:

  1. Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 Cr)

Former CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja ranks first on the list. The all-rounder, who was a star performer last season, struggled with both bat and ball in match after match. He has only scored 113 runs and taken five wickets in nine appearances. The extra responsibility of leadership also played a role, and he eventually opted to relinquish the baton to MS Dhoni in order to concentrate on his game.

  1. Rohit Sharma (Rs 15 Cr)

One of the main reasons why the Mumbai Indians are wallowing at the bottom of the points table is Rohit Sharma’s poor form. The MI talisman has just 155 runs at an average of 17.22 in nine matches, which is the lowest total in his IPL career.

His continual troubles with the bat seem to have harmed his decision-making abilities, and he has devolved into a mediocre leader.

  1. Varun Chakravarthy (Rs 8 Cr)

The mystery spinner, who was instrumental in his team’s run to the IPL final last year, has been reduced to a ghost of his former self in this year’s edition. This year, the bowler who earned a name for himself by delivering frugal periods and often taking up wickets has failed on both fronts. He has only struck out four hitters in eight outings and, to make matters worse, has allowed close to nine runs (8.82 rpo) in an over, compared to 6.58 last year. He was dropped from the team due to poor performance.

  1. Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 8 Cr)

Last season’s discovery of the season for KKR, Venkatesh Iyer, has been a massive letdown, scoring just 132 runs in nine matches, including an undefeated 50. His strong starts were a big reason why KKR made it to the final, but his lacklustre performance in IPL 2022 has been a major factor in their demise.

  1. Moeen Ali (Rs 8 Cr)

Last season, the England all-rounder was crucial to CSK’s title-winning campaign, but he has failed to get going this season. Due to visa difficulty, he joined the CSK roster late and missed the team’s first several games.

So far, he’s played five matches and scored just 87 runs while also failing to contribute with the ball. CSK put their faith in him to produce as he did last year, but he has failed miserably.
