5. Pravin Amre, Rishabh Pant controversy over no-ball call

Rishabh Pant was restless and furious as umpires Nitin Menon and Nikhil Patwardhan did not relent to the Delhi Capitals’ pleas to review a waist-high full toss during their tense final loss against the Rajasthan Royals.

Rovman Powell had hit the third successive six off Obed McCoy, and the DC dugout was seen gesturing to the umpire, asking for a referral to check for no-ball. At that stage, DC, needing 36 runs from the final over, was staring at a winning target of 18 runs from the last 3 balls.

Had the umpires ruled that McCoy’s high full-toss was above the waist, RR would have to bowl an extra ball and also concede a free hit. But the umpires did not budge, much to the frustration of Rishabh Pant, who signaled for the players to return to the dugout. He then discussed options with coach Pravin Amre, who later walked onto the field to chat with the umpires. Pant was fined 100% of his match, Shardul Thakur was sanctioned 50% while Pravin Amre was banned for one match.
