After a bad start to the reigning champions’ Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2022, Ravindra Jadeja has chosen to step down as captain and has asked MS Dhoni to lead Chennai Super Kings once more. Jadeja has made the decision to concentrate more on his game and focus on it. The CSK statement said, “MS Dhoni has consented to head CSK in the wider interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”

The 2021 champions had one of their poorest starts to a season, losing their first four games until winning their first game on April 12 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. And just when it looked like CSK might turn things around under Jadeja’s guidance, they lost two more games in their following three games to fall to ninth place in the points standings. With Dhoni stepping down two days before the start of IPL 2022, Jadeja was given the leadership responsibility. Despite his teammates’ unwavering backing, CSK have failed to get off to the best possible start in IPL 2022.

In addition to CSK’s dismal form, Jadeja has struggled in the competition, hitting 112 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 121.7 with a boundary per 8.3 balls, while also scooping up five wickets at an economy rate of 8.19 in eight innings. On Sunday, Chennai will play Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune in their ninth game of the season. Their season is now hanging by a thread, with only four victories in eight games.
